Finally, after building excruciating suspense, here it is, our winner of our bonsai art contest ($50.00 gift certificate to Stone Lantern)! This sweet tree on a cliff by João Pires has captured my imagination. Not that it’s the only one I like, actually I like them all. So much so that we are awarding a second places ($25.00 gift certificate), and three honorable mentions ($10.00 gift certs each).

Even though I had several mild criticisms (details, details) of Michelle Doughterty’s drawing, overall, it is quite delightful.

What a great surprise! I’m pleased you liked my drawing.
I’m just a beginner in bonsai. This means a lot to me.
This drawing started as one of several sketches I did for a pine owned by a friend. The pine took a different path and so did the sketch. Yellow mountains for inspiration. Japanese glyphs for style.
Anyway, congrats for the contest and the wonderful blog!

This is my first attempt on drawing bonsai… didn´t though about that… perhaps I should. I’m a complete ignorant on maters like on-line orders, shipping procedures and stuff like that. Well, sure I’d love to get my artwork on print, but I don’t see how.
