Miyazato Rintaro posted these four small trees last month. Here’s a strange machine translation for you… “For Sale. I’m going to give it to the net in the afternoon. The winner of the Finest Mame Bonsai at the 6th U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition. It’s a Willow leaf ficus (Ficus neriifolia) that belongs to Johnson Teh. No dimensions are given, but some sources list mame as up to 4″ (10cm) tall. Others go a little taller. Oscar Jonker took the photo. I cropped it for a closer look. I’m a sucker for a tree like this, with its colorful profusion of tiny fruit and its muscular little trunk. Judging by the leaves and fruit, I’d guess that this might be a dwarf Kumquat of some sort. Whatever it is, I know it’s small because of the proportions and because it’s part of Shohin display.
