That Strange First Branch

A very unusual tree. My first thought was to remove that strange first branch way down low (if you hold your hand over it, you see a remarkable bonsai with it’s powerful twisted trunk, beautiful living veins, luscious foliage and so forth). But is it that strange first branch that really distinguishes this tree? A facebook problem All the trees in this post appear in a facebook photo album by Hock Lye Yap (Malaysia). Simple Bonsai Beauty

This Brazilian Rain Tree’s lush, perfectly balanced canopy almost shimmers with life. It comes from Photos from Bursa BonsaiĀ  Indonesia. It was added by Budi Sulistyo. Budi is a well known Indonesian bonsai artist and author (Tropical Bonsai Gallery). I don’t know if the tree belongs to Budi or someone else (though I imagine someone will clue us in soon). It looks like it just grew that way, no human hand necessary (except that it’s in … Continue reading Simple Bonsai Beauty

Min Hsuan Lo’s Bonsai Teaser

Most bonsai shots show the whole tree, though you sometimes see partial tree photos (teasers). In this case, the photo has no trouble communicating the power and character of this magnificent bonsai, even if it only shows a little more than half of the tree and completely excludes the pot. All paths lead to Min Hsuan Lo I found the photo on one of the numerous bonsai galleries on facebook. It wasn’t attributed, so I traced it though several other photo galleries and finally landed on Budi Sulisyo (bonsai artist and author). It’s not Budi’s tree, but he did attribute … Continue reading Min Hsuan Lo’s Bonsai Teaser
