Selling Out: Bonsai Today & More

Bonsai Today issue 94. We’ve still got some of this one, but moment to moment they are disappearing. America’s premier bonsai magazine is slowly disappearing Every couple weeks or so we sell out of a back issue of Bonsai Today. Now we’ve decided to accelerate the process to make space for other new bonsai products (stay posted). 60% off and rising, but don’t wait We’ll start at 60% off and increase that discount every few weeks. That Natural Look

This popped up on Bonsai Mania from a photo of Roelof Jansen van Vuuren’s. It caught me because of its light airy feel and natural look. A small cut or two? This sweet Japanese maple (var?) planting reminds me a bit of the Sugar maples on the edge of my property. Sometimes I imagine them small and then start making mental cuts. These trees have the same effect on me; I wouldn’t mind grabbing my scissors and making a small cut or two.  Especially on that long left branch on the tree on the right (I think I just disturbed … Continue reading That Natural Look

Necessary and Good

Not too many I try not to clutter Bonsai Bark with too many Stone Lantern promos, still, selling books, tools and the other stuff is how we make our living, and that’s necessary and good. For us, and for you (check out the discounts). Three more rare out-of-print old issues of Bonsai Today just went up on Stone Lantern. Including 17, the famous transplanting issue (we only have 3, so don’t wait).

On April 16th we posted a little quiz from Bonsai Today issue 21. Several of you took the challenge (see comments). Now we are posting the artist’s answers. One could take issue with the ‘should have’ language (the problem may have been in the translation). Still, whatever your thoughts on the language, you can bet that the original artist had a pretty good handle on the art of pruning (see … Continue reading A Simple & Instructive Little Quiz, Part 2

Sales: Books, Netsuke, Kenzans

Don’t wait! Our book sale ends on Monday the 29th. 30% off Netsuke end tomorrow (Thursday the 25th). 30% off Kenzan sale has no ending date yet, but don’t wait too long. What’s with netsukes and kenzans on a bonsai blog and website? Good question (if I say so myself). Though bonsai is our primary passion and business, we’ve long had an interest in Japanese horticultural arts (thus Ikebana books, kenzans and tools and Japanese gardening books and tools). And to some extent, Japanese arts in general (thus the netsukes). So now that I’ve answered my own question, anything else … Continue reading Sales: Books, Netsuke, Kenzans
