Another Great Bonsai Show & a Scary Device

When I first glimpsed this photo, I though maybe it was a painting. In addition to being a great bonsai, it’s a good example of what fall color looks like on a Larch (larch are one of only four deciduous conifers). Also a good example of what larch cones look like. I’ll take a not-so-wild guess that it was collected somewhere in Europe. Which would make it a European larch (Larix decidua). More Deadwood & Six Reasons to Love a Bonsai

The uninitiated sometimes wonder how a tree like this stays alive. The answer; excellent care and that live vein that snakes its way up the trunk. The feature that really sets this tree apart (taking nothing away from the live vein and the tree’s overall beauty and balance) is that delicious deadwood reaching into the sky. Fractured Pot, Tea Time, Widly Expressive Deadwood, Bewildering At A Glance & Chicago (BTW)

There’s a lot to like about this Shimpaku juniper, though it’s not typical to see such dense foliage on a bunjin style bonsai.
