Talk about maximizing space. This photo is from somewhere in Japan via BonsaiNet on facebook.
If it weren’t the guy on the right, you might think we’re somewhere in the 19th century. This one, also from BonsaiNet, has a caption: Kanuma & Abe bonsai nurseries.
As an former nurseryman. two things pop into mind: no wasted space and no weeding necessary (except in the pots, that is). Morimae, Kanuma bonsai nurseries, from BonsaiNet .

Now that’s what I want my backyard to look like!
Hi Steven,
Better get busy!
Hello everyone,
I’m the guy who took this 2 pictures during a trip in Japan, a little more than one month ago.
Just to tell you that the two men in the second picture are Mr Kenichi Abe, and his son Daïki.
Mr Abe is the son of Kurakichi Abe, a great bonsai master of Fukushima, specialist of the local japanese white pine, the goyo-Azuma, and the author of a wonderful book that i hope, will be translated in english one day.
His son, Daïki, has been the apprentice of Chiharu Imai for 5 years.
I’ve spent some days visiting them and their incredible garden and mountains. Some of the best days in my all life.
They are the kindest people you can imagine. And even more!
A wonderful family in a wonderful place.
Feel free to ask me everything about them. I have hundreds of pictures of my stay there.
Bye
P.S: the first picture is in Yorozu-en, a nursery in Tokyo specialized in shohin and mame. An incredible place, one more in Japan…
Thanks Louis. It’s very good to flesh out your great photos with the story behind them. Good job!
