Even Though No Vacation Goes Unpunished, We’re Back & Ready for the Next Round

You almost never see Myrtles this massive. And when you do, they’re never from North America (go ahead, prove me wrong). This one is from Spain. It belong to Gabriel Bonsaisantboi Romero Aguade (something of a regular here on Bark). Here’s his caption… “After a day and a half removing inner leaves, it’s ready for a wire and correction.” We’ll just feature one tree today. I’m recovering from jet lag and worse, buried in two weeks of work (no vacation goes unpunished). Anyway, I’m back and Ric (our warehouse master) will be back and recovered from routine surgery on Monday Continued below…  … Continue reading Even Though No Vacation Goes Unpunished, We’re Back & Ready for the Next Round

Blooming Bonsai Beauties & a Quick Tip on Ramification

I found this luscious beauty on Micheal Hagedorn’s Crateagus Bonsai. It’s a Chinese wisteria (Wisteria sinensis).* Here’s Michael’s caption… “This tree has been a prolific bloomer for the past five years. When the blooms are done, leaves form at the base of the bloom spike, so we cut them back to those leaves, leaving a short spike. That becomes our ramification in a wisteria bonsai.” Just back from vacation and swamped, so we’ll make this one short and sweet. Thanks once again to our friend and teacher, Michael Hagedorn, a source of brilliant bonsai insights (and brilliant bonsai!) Spring Bonsai in Full Bloom – NEW Bonsai Soil

You don’t see cascading Azalea bonsai all that often. This flowing full flowering favorite (sorry about that) is by Teunis Jan Klein. Speaking of Azaleas, we just put up our new Kanuma azalea bonsai soil I’m in the process of putting up some new bonsai soil that just arrived. So far the Akadama is up with more to follow. Anyway, it’s spring, our busiest season, in much of the U.S. now. So we’re swamped and need to keep moving. Still. I try to post every day and here’s my quick and easy one for today. All the photos shown here are from a post by Bonsai … Continue reading Spring Bonsai in Full Bloom – NEW Bonsai Soil

Full Bloom Bonsai – A Passion for Beauty

This wildly colorful Satsuki Azalea is from a Flowering Bonsai Gallery in Bonsai Today issue 65 (image courtesy of Bonsai Focus). If you take a close look at the flowers, you’ll see that there are a number of different shades and patterns. A mark of human passion for beauty and endless variation. There are few things as delightful as Satsuki azalea bonsai in full bloom. Especially in person. Lacking that, next best are high quality photos of Satsuki azalea in full bloom. Especially during the darkest and coldest days of winter. Continued below… NEW INCREASED DISCOUNTS 30% to 35% off … Continue reading Full Bloom Bonsai – A Passion for Beauty

Sheer Bonsai Beauty

The black background provides a perfect contrast to the sheer white flowers. This Hawthorn bonsai belongs to Hans Van Meer. He doesn’t say what the the variety is but the flower looks like a Common hawthorn* (Crataegus monogyna). The pot is by Dan Barton Here’s another post I dug out of our archives (heavily edited to spare you unnecessary words). It’s from June, 2015. Both of the bonsai featured here are from the bonsai blog of Hans Van Meer. Satsuki Bonsai, with or without Flowers

This must be one of the most perfect Satsuki azalea you’ll see anywhere. It’s sheer power, balance and shape are so spot on that it doesn’t need to be covered with flowers (see below) for its majesty to shine through. I’m pretty sure we’ve shown it before, but a quick search came up empty. I found it somewhere on social media. Unattributed (I can guess it’s from Japan) and unidentified…. Colorful Bonsai to Brighten these Sun-Short Days

This Satsuki azalea photo was taken to emphasis the flowers, rather than the tree. If you were to take a photo of this tree when it’s not in flower, you’d take it a from a point a little lower to better show the powerful trunk and nebari. Here’s a little bonsai color to brighten up these sun-short days. Tiny Trees, Brilliant Flowers & Wild Horses

This sweet little quince with its brilliant flowers belongs to Haruyosi. It’s a safe bet that he also made the pot. It has been several years since I first stumbled upon Haruyosi. Every since that fortunate day, we periodically return to him and his delightful tiny trees and pots. In this case, it’s a rerun (we last showed these photos a little over a year ago), but it’s a good one, so I don’t think you’ll mind. I happen to believe that quince flowers are as brilliant and pure as any flowers anywhere. So we’ll stick with quince this time … Continue reading Tiny Trees, Brilliant Flowers & Wild Horses

Fruiting & Flowering Bonsai

Did that huge apple really grown on this small tree? I’m positive it’s an apple tree and as you can see, that’s most certainly an apple. What we don’t know for sure is, if that apple actually grew on this tree, though it could have. Or if it was glued on (it could also be photo-shopped, but I don’t think it is). There’s something a little off about putting your logo on photos that don’t belong to you. In a world with more than enough serious crime and corruption, this practice barely registers. But still, it’s questionable at best. You … Continue reading Fruiting & Flowering Bonsai
