The Best Bonsai Deserve the Best Pots

I found this Kumquat on Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pot blog. My apologies for the fuzzy photo. It’s cropped from a larger photo that originally came from Bonsai Tonight. The full photo and Ryan’s caption are below. It has been a while since we borrowed from Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pot blog.  As you might expect, it’s a great photo source for some of the best bonsai pots in the world. We’ll offer a glimpse of a few here, with and without trees. If you’d like to enjoy a whole lot more, I suggest you pay Ryan a visit. Masterful Bonsai, Brilliant Pots & Glimpses of Monet & Van Gogh

One of three magnificent Junipers (Juniperus chinensis) that you can find on Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots website. Or, you can go straight to the source, Bonsai Sidiao master, Cheng Cheng Kung’s site. Yesterday, Ryan Bell offered a friendly heads up on a boneheaded mistake by yours truly. After wiping the egg off and correcting the mistake, I decided to visit Ryan’s Japanese Bonsai Pots to see what he’s been up to lately. As always, it was a click worth making. Especially for someone who enjoys brilliant ceramic art and equally brilliant bonsai. Continued below… Here’s something you might like … Continue reading Masterful Bonsai, Brilliant Pots & Glimpses of Monet & Van Gogh

A Bonsai Pot that Set the Armies Marching

This powerful little Trident maple with its massive trunk and distinctive mottled soft blue pot deserves top billing. The photo is from a section on Takao Koyo in the Japanese Bonsai Pots Blog. This all started with a couple pots by Takao Koyo on Morten Albek’s Shohin Bonsai Blog. A quick search lead to a Takao Koyo jackpot at Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots blog, and from there a link to Takao Koyo’s blog, where you can enjoy an abundance of great pots and trees. This post originally appeared two years ago (Jan, 2015). I’ve done some editing but the … Continue reading A Bonsai Pot that Set the Armies Marching

Pots, Chops and a Spectacular Juniper Bonsai

This spectacular juniper belongs to Mr. Chiu Chung Cheng. I found it on Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots Blog. This will make three posts in a row that feature photos from Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots Blog. The last two were new Bark posts, this one is from our archives (December 2012). For a relative bonsai newcomer, I’m impressed with just how thoroughly Ryan Bell has jumped into the thick of the bonsai fray. I’m especially taken with his pot collection (many are for sale) and his recent (remember this is from 2012) photo journey through many of our bonsai … Continue reading Pots, Chops and a Spectacular Juniper Bonsai

Fukien Tea with Elephant & Other Wonders

That’s a lot of tree for a pot that size. But then that’s a commanding pot, at least in color and design. The pot and presumably the tree (Breynia officianalis) belong to Ruban Yu. This photo and the one just below are from The 11th Annual Shohin Pottery Competition, on Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots blog. Continuing from yesterday, here are a couple more trees from Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots blog. Both belong to Ruban Yu. The pots below also belong to Ruban and are from his website. Here’s what Ryan has to say about the two bonsai shown … Continue reading Fukien Tea with Elephant & Other Wonders

Shamelessly Stealing Bonsai Pots (Trees too)

I found this Kumquat on Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pot blog. My apologies for the fuzzy photo. It’s cropped from a larger photo that originally came from Bonsai Tonight. The full photo and Ryan’s caption are below. It has been a while since we borrowed (shamelessly stoled*) from Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pot blog.  As you might expect, it’s a great photo source for some of the best bonsai pots in the world. We’ll offer a glimpse of a few here, with and without trees. If you’d like to enjoy a whole lot more, I suggest you pay Ryan a … Continue reading Shamelessly Stealing Bonsai Pots (Trees too)

When Was the Last Time You Saw a Pink Bonsai Pot?

The more I look, the more I love this powerful little bonsai with its proportionally massive trunk and mottled tropical ocean-blue pot that accentuates its bright green leaves (it’s the coffee). The photo is from a section on Takao Koyo in the Japanese Bonsai Pots Blog. The tree is a Trident maple. This all started with a couple pots (below) by Takao Koyo that were recently purchased by Morten Albek and put up on his Shohin Bonsai Blog. A quick search lead to a Takao Koyo jackpot at Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots blog. Here’ a little piece on Takao Koyo … Continue reading When Was the Last Time You Saw a Pink Bonsai Pot?

It’s Not Everyday…

One side of a brilliantly artistic bonsai pot by Miyazaki Isseki. The other three sides and two corner views are below. All the photos in this post are from Sam & KJ’s Suiseki blog, which BTW is one of the better blogs around and well worth a visit. I don’t think we’ve ever devoted a whole post to just one pot. But then, it’s not everyday you see a pot quite like this. The way the bright white glaze sets off the brilliance of the colors and artistry of the scenes has made such an impression, that I don’t think … Continue reading It’s Not Everyday…

Traveling Pot Meister

I don’t recognize this sculptural Shimpaku and it’s not labeled on the Japanese Bonsai Pots Blog (random photos section), from whence I borrowed it (it belongs to Mr. Chiu Chung Cheng, see comments below). I like the overall composition; the way the stand, pot and tree go so well together. One thing that seems a little unusual, is how large the live vein is relative to the rather narrow branch that it supports. I’ve been meaning to feature Ryan Bell’s Japanese Bonsai Pots Blog ever since I stumbled upon it a couple months ago. For a relative bonsai newcomer, I’m … Continue reading Traveling Pot Meister
