This was the first entry in our contest. It’s from Jim(?). We had posted a bonsai paint-by-numbers (see image and explanation below) as a starting point for the contest and Jim is the only entrant to use it.
A troubled slumber
Here’s what Jim has to say about his entry: “First eh? Well here’s my entry. It’s more of a dream than an entry. I awoke from a troubled slumber and put it down really. My eyes were thick with crust and my heart racing. Hope everyone likes it.”
Sense of humor
I think sense of humor is way up there when it comes to what makes being human okay, and Jim wins the sense of humor prize hands down.
Bright, crazy, wild
Beyond sense of humor, Jim’s bonsai is bright, crazy, wild and completely enjoyable. So is his explanation. I’m not saying his entry will win the contest (I’ll probably select something more serious), but there’s nothing not to like about Jim’s crazy dream.
Here’s the paint-by-numbers that inspired the contest. We found it on Michelle Dougherty’s Bunjin Journal. We took it off the original contest post because of a misunderstanding that has sense been resolved (in fact, Michelle is one of the entrants in this contest).
