Root on Rock Bonsai 2/2/11

Root-on-rock Juniper chinensis from Michele Andolfo’s Bonsai Studio.

Leaving it up to you
I need to get our next newsletter out, so there’s little time to say much about this bonsai; other than I like the tree, rock and pot, and the way the line of the rock and the tree flow into each other. Beyond that, maybe you could write your own comments.

  1. Maybe it is this particular view but it looks like the rock glomed onto the tree half way up. I’ve always felt that there is a tricky proportion rock to tree and this one is out of balance.

  2. Nice idea..nice design..but if it shows the trunk line with more ramification structure, I believe it will look better as a big tree grows on rock…

LOL, a little gap between the tree and the rock would create better composition…

  3. It is hard to see the root structure in this. It looks more like root in rock and a cliffside cascade. Or like cookie monster eating the tree – Om nom nom nom.
